| Gefechtsbericht A: | On a report hy R.D.F. at 2015/19 that a number of vessels had left Boulogne to the North-East, MTBs 219, 218 and 48 supported by MGBs 10, 9 and 41 were sent to investigate. Contact was first made at 2150 about four miles east of Gris Nez. In low visibility it was difficult to ascertain composition of enemy force, but it probably consisted of two or three coaster type vessels of less than 1000 tons and an unknown number of R boat escorts. MTB's 219 and 218 each fired two torpedoes at Coasters without success. MTB 48 did not locate a torpedo target. MGB's had brief inconclusive engagements. -- 19/23h30 Being uncertain of composition of enemy and as attacks were reported as unsuccessful, I despatched MTB's 44 and 47 as reinforcements. Meanwhile, enemy were shadowed by MTB’s and MGB's. At 20/01h55 MTB 44 made contact near the West Hinder but in decreased visibility was unable to make an attack, and soon afterwards all touch was lost. Boats returned independently the last arriving at 0855.There was considerable but inaccurate enemy fire during contacts. MTB 48 had one slight casualty and MGB 9 was slightly damaged [1] |
