| Gefechtsbericht A: | PT's 202 204 205 (Lt. DuBose, Clifford, O'Brien) were returning from an uneventful patrol off Cape Bon and skirting the shore to give a wide berth to Allied destroyers stationed in the Bay of Tunis. They suddenly found themselves in the middle of an engagement between a British destroyer and a force of S-Boats. PT 202 and 204 laid a smokescreen and managed to turn away before being sighted. But 205 (Lt. O'Brien), which was last in line, exchanged fire with an S-Boat, eventually leaving the enemy craft burning fiercely. In the confusion, the destroyer mistook the PT for a German boat and chased her for nearly one hour before O'Brien managed to escape by putting in to Bizerta which had just been evacuated by the enemy [1] -> At 0255/11 H.M.S. LAMERTON engaged 6 E-boats in vicinity of Zembra, enemy retired north wards under cover of smoke, one boat probably damaged; very slight superficial damage was sustained, no casualties.[2] |
