Gefechtsbericht A: | Minelaying operations unter the identity of "QU" was the extention of "QL" tasks under order of Nore Command in the area Ymuiden, Texel, Scheveningen, Egmond, Hook of Holland, and Scheldt. Until February 1943 Nore and Dover Commands were using only ML Flotillas as minelayers, Motor Gunboats were first used in May 1943 for Operation "QL 5A". Motor Torpedo Boats of 21st MTB (based at Lowestoft) were deployed the first time in the same month for "QU 11" off Ymuiden. MTB's were increasingly deployed during 1943 and 1944 but never to the same extent as ML's. Last "QU" lay was "QU 36" on 29. May 1944.[1] -> Weather permitting carry out operation Q.U.(1) tonight, with 51st M.L. Flotilla. Covering force by 8th M.G.B. Flotilla as close escort for passage, then covering from vicinity R.B.14. On completion of lay M.G.B.s have freedom of action to southward in support of M.T.B.s.[2] |
