| Gefechtsbericht A: | Coastal shipping from Leghorn was selected for attention in March 1944 and the 8th Motor Launch Flotilla based at Algiers were prepared for minelaying duties. On completion of conversion the Flotilla transferred to Malta for Operation NITWIT. Six MLs made up the minelaying force which completed a lay of 36 Moored Mk XVU mines south of Vada Rocks near Leghorn on 16 May 1944.[1]. - 5. M.Ls. covered by M.T.Bs. and P.T. boats laid 30 mines near 43°10' N. 10°30' E. (off Leghorn) last night.[2]. - Mission No. 239: PT 203 (S.O.), 202, 556, 559, and 563 completed a minelaying operation with British HML 8 and MTBs off San Vincenco [3] |
