| Gefechtsbericht A: | Angriff auf einen Verband von 3 bewaffneten Schiffen gescheitert. Angriffsposition war wegen eines dt. Luftgeleits zu weit entfernt. - MGB 605, MGB 609, MGB 610, MGB 612 are driven off in an attack on a German patrol [1] -> At 0100 unit of 3 M.G.B.s commenced sweep at 12 knots. M.T.B. 610, slightly damaged in collision, had been ordered to return independently. At 0110 fixed white light observed on port bow, range about 4 1/4 miles, later proving to be one fast escort vessel. At 0128 star shell fired from astern. At 0148 bows observed of fast vessel closing rapidly on port side. Fixed light of vessel previously mentioned was extinguished and R.D.F. showed two vessels, one on either bow, with third vessel apparently attempting to illuminate and drive M.G.Bs. on the other escorts. Unit increased and altered course to starboard and when two miles clear stopped. At 0210 unit approached original position to identify vessels. At 0230 star shell. Proceeded down convoy route at 12 knots, enemy escorts keeping about two miles off, firing intermittent star shell. At 0315 enemy were closing rapidly and unit decided to make off shore at fast speed. Many deviations necessary as the three enemy ships were spread out fanwise and at times estimated speed 30 knots, chase being abandoned after about 15 miles. During last manoeuvre 609 and 612 became separated and course to steer was sent by W/T. - M.G.B.610 also reports that when leaving unit she was chased north approximately 15 miles by one fast ship. The enemy showed little iniative with the advantage they held.[2] |
