| Gefechtsbericht A: | 04h20 meldet der Radarplotter einen gegnerischen Geleitzug. Es handelte sich jedoch um einen Kriegsschiff-Verband. Bei dem Versuch, rasch aus dem Abwehrfeuer zu kommen, gab es eine schreckliche Kollision zwischen 222 und 230, beide Boote wurden schwer beschädigt und mussten selbstversenkt werden [1] -> At 0420 three Radar contacts believed to be trawlers were obtained to seaward steering South. Unit stopped and started plot. At 0437 Unit proceeded South and manoeuvred into firing position, stopping at about 0520 in 52° 43' N. 4° 33' E. but enemy was not sighted even at 500 yards range. Enemy apparently heard Unit as alarm gongs were heard and spasmodic firing took place. Enemy must then have altered towards M.T.Bs. 238 and 93 had to accelerate to avoid being rammed, circling to seaward to regain position. M.T.B. 222 was apparently surprised by an enemy vessel trying to ram. 222 turned to port at high speed and rammed 230 in engine room [2]. -> Whilst four M.T.B.s of the 22nd Flotilla were in contact with enemy trawlers north of Ymuiden in the early hours of today M.T.B. 222 rammed M.T.B. 230. The latter was abandoned and scuttling charge was fired. M.T.B. 222 was taken in tow, but the weather deteriorated and the vessel had to be sunk at 1950 today in 52°47'N, 03°15'E (about 60 miles east of Great Yarmouth) [2]. - |
