| Gefechtsbericht A: | Angriff mit 6 Torpedos auf 7 MFP aus 500 Yards Entfernung. Da das eigene Geschützfeuer den MFPs ihr Ziel verriet, zogen sich die PT's zurück.[1] - PT 202 (Lt. McLeod with S.O. aboard), 210 (Lt. Davis), 214 (Lt. Olson) had squadrons first encounter with a column of 7 F-lighters. Each boat fired two torpedoes, and at 300 yards started to turn away. During the turn, the second lighter in column sent up a flare, apparently a signal to open fire. All lighters immediately opened with a great volume of 76mm, 20mm and machinegun fire, which PTs returnerd. Although it was felt that two torpedoes hit home, German records show that they all missed. When it became apparent that fire from PTs gave F-lighters a point of aim, the PTs ceased fire and laid smoke. PT 202 had a punctured gasoline tank, several holes in the hull and one man woundes. Tghe otger boats were not hit.[1]. |
