| Gefechtsbericht A: | (1) 4 E-Boats entered northern half of Q.Z.S.657 between N.F.8 end N.F. 9 at 0140, minimum speed 30 knots from N.W. retired to North. No indication of minelaying in channel. Engaged closely by M.T.B’s 677, 726 and TORRINGTON, hits being claimed by main and close range weapons, superficial damage to M.T.B. no casualties.[1] -> (2) At 0105 MACKAY on patrol No.18 reported radar contact to eastward and at 0111A identified contact as 3 E-Boats steering 200 degs. MACKAY engaged and enemy turned to north-westward, later altering to north eastward until plot faded. Possibility of mines having been laid in direction 190 degs. from 51 degs. 27' N. 02 degs. 11' E. but at no time was enemy plotted nearer than half a mile to searched channel. [1] -> (3) At 0135 TORRINGTON No. 16 patrol obtained radar contact 332 degs. Ostend 14.2 course 145 degs. 35 knots. Enemy continued on this course until 0145, when a turn to the northward was made, plots at that time showed enemy to be about one mile north of searched channel. TORRINGTON and Coastal Force unit engaged and drove off E-Boats to northwestward. RUTHERFORD on patrol No.19 also gained contact with this group.[1] |
