| Gefechtsbericht A: | Keine Angaben bei Reynolds. -- SGB-Action of 27.09.1943. Four of us had been down to Le Havre, and then swept northward again towards Cap d'Antifer. Just before 2 a.m. we found the enemy, two trawlers, and stalked him for about an hour. … The range was less than 600 yards when he (SGB 4, Lt. Mason with S.O. on board) fired both torpedoes. The trawlers were surprised, unready and did not reply. Our guns ripped into the second one, which was about 300 yards away. Suddenly a third trawler appeared. SGB 9 (Lt. Scott) was just changing target to this trawler, when our torpedo hit the leading trawler, which sank immediately. Then all our guns fired at the third trawler, which tried to escape. As soon as we hadd passed this third trawler, two more ships began firing at us. We increased speed and disengaged. SGB 5 (Lt. Hall) was left behind, he was still manoevring to make his torpedo attack. He sighted two larger ships, probably M class minsweepers. It was 03h45 when he fired his torpedoes. But no result was observed. The weather was not really promising for another attack and so we set off home [1]. -> Angriff von 4 SGB's auf 3 feindliche Trawler vor Cap d'Antifer. | Gefechtsbericht B: | Drei Vorpostenboote der 15. V-Flottille (KKpt. Rall), V1501, V 1509, V1511 und V1512, verlassen gegen 20.00 Uhr Le Havre ostwärts zu einer Kontrollfahrt. Vor Cap d'Antifer werden sie von feindlichen SGB's attackiert. Um 03u55 wird V 1501 von einem Torpedo getroffen und sinkt innerhalb von 10 Sekunden [3]. |
