| Gefechtsbericht A: | One night in February 1943 the ML's of Lt.Cdr Ashdown had a narrow escape. Three of his A class ML's were operating with four B class of a flottilla manned by personnal of the Royal Norwegian Navy. They were to lay mines well up the lit channel into Dunkirk. The work was nearly done, when two 'Narvik' destroyer with a third ship - probably an M Class minesweeper - appeared. The destroyer turned towards their enemy and hackled Group A and then opened cross fire. The ML's made smoke and cracked up to maximum speed end were lucky to escape. The boats had suffered only superficial damage [1]. |
