Bei der Rückkehr nach Narvik in die Grid-Plätze AF 37 wurde das U 965 von einem mit Torpedos angegriffen U-Boot, aber alle vermisst. Zwischen dem 23.06.1944 und dem 23.07.1944, 31 Tage auf See, brach das Boot eine Feindfahrt in der Nordsee ab, weil am 20.07.44 ein Mann getötet und ein Mann bei einem Luftangriff verwundet wurde. Vom 23.08.1944 bis 03.09.1944 war der 1. Wachoffizier Lt.z.S. Dabelow übernahm das Kommando über das Boot in der Zeit, in der die Boat Cdr. Oblt.z.S. Unverzagt war im Krankenhaus und vom 01.09.1944 bis 03.09.1944 Verlegungsfahrt, das Boot fuhr von Hammerfest über Narvik nach Hammerfest und verbrachte 2 Tage auf See. Drei Feindfahrten im Nordmeer, 51 Seetage. Sechs Verlegungsfahrten im Nordmeer, 24 Tage auf See. (First Watch Officer.
