Während der fünften Patrouille am 30.12.1943 'U 618' gespeichert 21 Überlebende aus dem versunkenen deutschen Zerstörer 'Z 27', wo es durch britische Kreuzer Glasgow und Enterprise vom 28.12.1943 im Golf von Biskaya versenkt wurde. Während der sechsten Patrouille wurde das Boot angegriffen mit Wasserbomben von Flugzeugen der Alliierten und Schiffe erlitt so schwere Schäden, dass sie nach St. Nazaire wieder hatte. 3 Dampffrachtschiffe 15.788 BRT versenkte. (Commander. Six war patrols, 380 days at sea. During the fifth patrol on 30.12.1943 U 618 saved 21 survivors from the sunken German destroyer Z 27 where it was sunk by British cruisers Glasgow and Enterprise on 28.12.1943 in the Gulf of Biscay.
