Am 07.05.1943 während der letzten Feindfahrt wurde das Boot zur Rückkehr gezwungen 7 Tage auf See in der Bucht von Biskaya, 1. WO Oblt. z. S. Stock nahm vorübergehend das Kommando über die Boot und war gezwungen, nach Brest zurück, weil Kdt. Kptlt. Günther Reeder wurde verletzt nach dem Luftangriff vom britischen Whitley Flugzeuge aus Nr. 10 OTU Sqdn RAF. 2 Dampffrachtschiffe 13.840 BRT versenkt, 1 Motorpassagierschiff hat in einen Hilfskreuzer umgewandelt 10.552 BRT beschädigt und 1 Motorfrachtschiff 4.426 BRT versenkt. (Commander. Two transit sailings, 7 days. Three war patrols, 162 days at sea. On 16.06.1942 the boat aborted a patrol because was attacked and damage by British aircraft in the Bay of Biscay forced the boat to return to Lorient after 5 days at sea. On 07.05.1943 during last patrol the boat was forced to return after a air attack in the Bay of Biscay by British Whitley aircraft from No. 10 OTU Squadron RAF causing damages to the boat and Kptlt. Günther Reeder was severely wounded in the neck and was replaced temporaly by 1st WO Oblt.z.S. Rupprecht Stock on 07.05.1943, 7 days at sea. Sunk 2 steam cargo ships 13.840 GRT, damaged 1 motor passenger ship has been converted into an auxiliary cruiser 10.552 GRT and sunk 1 motor cargo ship 4.426 GRT. On 11.05.1943 Kptlt. Günther Reeder was replaced definitively by Oblt.z.S. Rupprecht Stock.) |
