| Footnote : | U-109 heard a second detonation after a minute and thought, that the second torpedo sunk a vessel in a tug convoi, which had been observed under the coast shortly before. Bleichrodt identified "Worden" by an intercepted radio signal. Anyways, the torpedo didn't hit the Nigerian coaster, but probably detonated when it reached the coastline. The motorvessel "Worden" signalled SOS for a torpedo attack at 05:58h, then came alongside "La Paz" and took her under tow for 7 miles until "La Paz" grounded, again. "Worden" in fact survived the war. |
