Footnote : | There is no torpedo report for "Clearton", which was attacked twice. After the first attack the freighter stopped and set out lifeboats. At 13:25 GMT "Clearton" disappeared from the surface. Two U-boats were operating in the area, and neither returned from their patrols. - Following Bob Coppock (NHB), U-26/Scheringer carried out the attack on convoy OA.175, and U-102/Klot-Heydenfeldt the attack on SL.36. At 15:58 GMT U-102 was sunk by "HMS Vansittart" in pos. 48.33n/10.25w. |
