Footnote : Marcello shelled a ship which was identified by the B-Dienst as the greek steamer "Eleni". In reality the British "Thelma" was attacked and could only escape, when 4 gunners of the Uboot fell overboard and "Marcello" was busy to save them. The Belgian "Portugal" was sighted on Jan.11th the last time. She may have fallen victim to an aircraft of the K.G.40.
