Nach gegenseitigen Ramm- und Enterversuchen wurde U 66 nach Aussteigen der Besatzung auf der Position 17° 17' Nord, 32° 29' West im Marine-Planquadrat AM 1314. (Killed with 23 crew members of U 66 sunk in the Atlantic, West of Cape Verde Islands, 17°17´ N x 32°29´ W [KM naval grid square AM 1314], by depth charges and gunfire from Avenger and Wildcat aircraft from VC-55 USN Squadron operating from the US escort carrier USS Block Island CVE 21 and by the destroyer escort USS Buckley DE 51.)
