Die LFZ-Gesamtchronik wurde geschaffen, um in einer Menge von ca 15.000 chronologischen Angaben zielgenau suchen und finden zu können. Die LFZ-Mutterdateien werden dadurch nicht überflüssig. Aber das Zusammenwirken der vielen LFZ in ihrer Gesamtheit wird deutlich.
Die DB kann sortiert werden nach Fahrzeugen oder nach Datum. Sie erlaubt, nach Datum und Operationsgebiet zu filtern (Frontpage oben links). Sie erlaubt in den einzelnen Feldern zu suchen, nach Freitext oder über einen Thesaurus (FSW = fest vereinbarte Suchworte).
Gesucht wird über Kurzformen für einzelne Verbände; die wichtigsten sind in der Tabelle rechts aufgeführt.
